Rules

Rules updated on 18th September 2020 ahead of 2020 Season B

All games and matches played in the AirAsia KL Junior League adhere to the following rules, as set out by the League Committee.

League Format

Under 7
  • Will play 5 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 36L x 23W
Under 8
  • Will play 7 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 46L x 26W
Under 9
  • Will play 7 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 49L x 28W
Under 10
  • Will play 7 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 49L x 28W
Under 11
  • Will play 9 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 2 x 20 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 59L x 50W
  • Offside rules apply
Under 12
  • Will play 9 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 2 x 20 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 59L x 50W
  • Offside rules apply
Girls Under 13
  • Will play 5 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 46L x 26W
Under 14, Under 16 & Under 18
  • Will play 11 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 2 x 20 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 100L x 59W
  • Offside rules apply
Girls Under 15
  • Will play 7 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 3 x 12 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 49L x 28W
Girls Under 18
  • Will play 9 a side football
  • The duration of each match will be 2 x 20 minutes
  • The pitch size will be approx 59L x 50W

Draw for League

  • The League Committee will conduct a draw for groups in all age-groups. A fixture list will then be circulated to all participating teams and published on our website at www.kljuniorleague.my

Players

Player Eligibility:  
Under 7: Born 2013 and later | Maximum 15 players
Under 8: Born 2012 and later | Maximum 18 players
Under 9: Born 2011 and later | Maximum 18 players
Under 10: Born 2010 and later | Maximum 18 players
Under 11: Born 2009 and later | Maximum 20 players
Under 12: Born 2008 and later | Maximum 20 players
Girls Under 13: Born 2007 and later | Maximum 18 players
Under 14: Born 2006 and later | Maximum 25 players
Girls Under 15: Born 2005 and later | Maximum 18 players
Under 16: Born 2004 and later (with a maximum of 4 ‘over-age’ players born 2003 and later)  | Maximum 25 players
Under 18: Born 2002 and later (with a maximum of 4 ‘over-age’ players born 2001 and later) | Maximum 25 players
Girls Under 18: Born 2002 and later | Maximum 18 players

  • All players must abide strictly to the age categories as listed above, with the exception of female players playing in the Boys League, who may be 1 year older in the U8, U9, U10, U11 and U12 categories, and 2 years older in the U14, U16 and U18 categories.
  • Teams are required to complete the registration form and submit a photocopy of birth certificate/identity card or passport to the League Committee.
  • Overaged players in both the Under 16 & Under 18 age groups must wear a taped armband. Teams may only have 3 overaged players on the pitch at any given time. If a team is found to have used an additional overage player during a match the game will result in a 3-0 walkover win for the opposing team.

Player Registration

  • Teams are required to complete the registration form online and register all their players in the league system prior to the start of the season. The registration form will ask if the player does or does not have an AirAsia KL Junior League Player Card. If your players do not have a player card they must then also complete the player card registration form. Any player who has not been registered online will not be permitted to play. 
  • All players are required to bring their AirAsia KL Junior League Player Card or their original IC/passport to verify their registration at the admin desks for every match. If a player is unable to show their player card or IC/passport they will not be permitted to play. Players are required to show their player card or their IC/Passport at every matchday for verification purposes. 
  • On match days, once players have shown their player card or IC/Passport they will receive a stamp which will permit them to play. Any player who does not get a stamp is not permitted to play. It is the responsibility of the coaches and managers to make sure that their players are stamped prior to kick off.
  • If a player loses their player card they must pay RM30 for a replacement card.

Player Registration Window & Player Eligibility

  • Teams may register players during the following periods only: 
    1. Registration Period 1: 14th–24th September
    2. Registration Period 2: 28th September – 1st October 
    3. Registration Period 3: 26th–29th October
  • Outside of these periods teams may not register new players. Any player who is registered outside of these weeks will not be allowed to play. 
  • Once a player has registered and played for one club they may not play for another club for the remainder of the season. Players are not permitted to play for different clubs in different age groups.
  • Player transfers throughout the season are not permitted.
  • Within the same club or academy, a player may be promoted up a division. However, once promoted to a higher division they will be deregistered from their original team and are not permitted to go back to a lower division. Players are not permitted to drop down a division for the same club.
  • If 2 or more teams are found to be using the same player, all matches the player has participated in will be awarded a 3–0 walkover win to the opposition teams.

Pitch and Footwear

  • Playing area is an artificial turf pitch.
  • Players may wear studded soccer shoes with plastic studs (metal studs soccer boots are not allowed).
  • Players must wear shin-guards throughout the course of the league.

Balls

  • U7 will use size 3 match balls.
  • U8, U9, U10, U11, U12 & Girls U13 will use size 4 match balls.
  • U14, Girls U15, U16, Girls U18 & U18 will use size 5 match balls.

Red and Yellow cards

  • Players shown a Red card are sent-off immediately and banned from play for one (1) full match

Offside

  • The offside rule will not be used in the U7, U8, U9, U10, Girls U13 & Girls U15 age groups. The offside rule will apply in the U11, U12, U14, U16, Girls U18 & U18 age groups.

Goal Kicks and Kick-Offs

  • U7, U8, U9, U10 and Girls U13 teams cannot score directly from goal kicks or kick-offs. The ball must be passed to a teammate.

Substitutions

  • Substitutions may happen at any time during the match given the referee has given consent.
  • The substitute must wait for the player to leave the pitch before entering.
  • When substituting goalkeepers, the team must notify the referee when the ball is out-of-bounds for the substitution to happen.
  • Substituted players shall be allowed to re-enter during the same match (rolling substitutions).

Minimum number of players

  • The minimum number of players to start each half varies with age-group.
  • If a team fails to field the minimum number of players a walkover shall be awarded to the opponents with full points and a registered score of 3–0 or the actual score at the time of stopping play, whichever is the higher.

Under 7 – minimum players: 4
Under 8
– minimum players: 4
Under 9 – minimum players: 4
Under 10 – minimum players: 4
Under 11 – minimum players: 6
Under 12 – minimum players: 6
Girls Under 13 – minimum players: 4
Under 14 – minimum players: 7
Girls Under 15 – minimum players: 4
Under 16 – minimum players: 7
Under 18 – minimum players: 7
Girls Under 18 – minimum players: 6


Time allowance

  • A maximum of five (5) minutes allowance shall be allowed after the starting whistle by the referee, after which a walkover shall be awarded to the opponents with full points and a registered score of 3-0.

Points system

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

Teams tied in the League

  • In the event that two or more teams are tied on points at the end of the league, goal difference shall be used to settle the tie. If the teams are still level the team that has the greatest number of goals scored will advance. If the teams are still level the result between the teams when they played each other will decide their order. Failing a distinction, penalty kicks will be used to settle the matter.

Team Kits

  • All teams must have a kit which clearly displays a number for each player. The number on the player jersey must reflect the number registered in the player registration form for each individual player. 

Act of God

  • If the field becomes unsuitable for play due to heavy rain, lightning or for any other reasons, the League Committee reserves the right to decide on the event or change the format of the event.

Jurisdiction

  • In the event of a protest or dispute, the League Committee shall have sole jurisdiction in settling the matter.

Insurance

  • It is highly recommended that teams obtain their own insurance cover before play. Maxim Pro Management is not responsible for any accident, injury or death that may occur during this league, and all teams enter at their own risk.
